One of the little know areas in New Zealand for brown trout the rivers surrounding Ohakune are a great summer escape for keen fresh water fishermen. All rivers an easy drive from Ohakune and fed by the clean mountain streams.

Dry Fly: – Blue Dun, Olive Dun, Kakahi Queen, Twilight Beauty, Grenwell’s Glory, March Brown, Cochy-Bondhu, Black Gnat

Wet Fly: – Peveril O’ The Peak, Hardies Favourite, Twilight Beauty, March Brown, plus red tipped Governor/Black Gnat

Nymphs: – Pheasant Tail, Half Back, Hare and Copper, Caddis imitations (all well weighted)

Lures: – Parsons Glory, Mrs Simpson, Black Phantom, Leslies Lure

Spinners: – Black and Gold Toby, Black and Gold Toby, Gren and Red Veltic, Red and Gold Veltic, Gold Veltic, Daffy, Norwich Raised Eye

Bait: – Worms, Creeper, Beetles, Slugs
